Free EP Release Date July 1/2010

Bishop & Mulholland will be releasing a free downloadable EP on July 1, 2010. The EP, called Ear Candy For An Apocalypse is projected to contain 6 tracks, including 2 new songs, an alternative ending, a remix, and two tracks from Essays and Ear Candy. As the album name suggests, most of the tracks will have an eschatalogical angle to them.

Production on the lead track Different Days is almost complete and features a Seal-like vocal delivery over a bed of strings, synth washes and skittering beats.

Check back for more details over the coming months.

Cross Rhythms Album Review- 9/10

[Note: if you check my ancestry back far enough, you'll probably get to the Netherlands, but I'm 100% Canadian!]

Rating: 9/10

The Netherlands-based electro soul producer and vocalist Paul Dirks spent over two and a half years putting this album together. The soul influence of the likes of Marvin Gaye is evident particularly in Paul's vocal delivery while there is a variety of beats and grooves to keep the club crowd happy. "Labour Of Love" and "Thrill Of The Chase" show off a more laid back approach with an almost trip hop beat to them whilst "Don't Cry For Babylon" picks up the pace with a more big beat sound. For me the standout track is "Thank You For Moving" with its smooth vocal intro and insanely catchy beat and melody. With so much electronica these days lacking the invention and diversity to stand out this album is a real gem. It has a real relaxed summer's day feel to it, can almost picture myself cruising a convertible car on a hot day with this blaring out. Shame I don't have the car.

There is only one way to describe the sound of Bishop & Mulholland: techno or, to quote todays terminology, “Electro Soul”. Bishop & Mulholland is the brain child of one man named Paul Dirks. This is one of the most talented men of any music genre. And, if you think that you can pigeon hole him into just one way of creating his music? “NOT”!!! He has something for everyone who takes the time to listen to his new CD called Essays and Ear Candy: it’s a bit of “Pop”, it’s a bit of “Hip Hop”,iIt’s a bit of “Electro Slide”, It’s please give me that dance floor one more time Miss Donna Summer.

This musician, and great songwriter has captured the entire essence of a forgotten era of a musical movement, and turned it into a musical palate for your ears that stays in your head long after each song has finished playing. You will find that you keep repeating his material over and over in your mind so much so, that you have to just keep talking yourself out of breaking into a long ago disco dance in the middle of Wal-Mart anywhere USA.
